The slightly stocky fella with the gray hair is back, hanging out, watching the water swirl by.

Ron is present, drinking something out of a brown paper bag.

"Hey."

Redleaf looks up, nods. "Hey. Found something you might be interested in. Walk with me?"

"Sure"

Ron follows Redleaf.

Redleaf walks down the trail a fair distance, until he finds a spot where he's confident the two aren't being observed. His eyes flicker bright green for a moment as he seems to stare into the distance.

"Okay. Looks like we're clear." He holds up a sealed manila envelope. "I'll keep it straightforward. The stink I smelled? It's there, and it's big. Everything I know is in here. My price for this information is simple: a riddle I can't solve, or two talens. Given that I nearly got my butt eaten to get it, I think it's a fair price."

"You have been given the task of transporting 5,015.00 apples 1,004.16 miles from Appleland to Bananaville on your apple cart. Your cart can carry 1,010.00 apples at a time. Every time you travel a mile towards Bananaville the horse pulling your cart eats 1.00 apples but he doesn't eat anything when going in the other direction (towards Appleland).

What is highest number of apples you can get to Bananaville, to the nearest one tenth of an apple?"

"More of a math problem than a riddle, and there's some ambiguity--does the horse only eat an apple when a full mile has been traveled, or do we have to get into fractional apples?  The trick, of course, is to make multiple trips partway there and pile up apples on the road partway--you end up with more apples than if you just hauled each load straight there--but the fractions make it a headache."

He waves it off.  "I can work out the math later, but I don't think either one of us wants to sit around for an hour or two while I do it. I'll concede that I don't want to crunch the numbers here and now, and we'll call the payment good enough.  Next time, though, I'm going to want something with a little more meat to it--not a classic with the numbers changed to make the math more onerous."

He tosses Ron the envelope.

"The JN Adams Memorial Hospital is down on the outskirts of Perrysburg.  It's been abandoned for years.  Big old place, falling apart, creepy as heck.  People have been going missing lately, and it always seems to be happening in areas near the hospital."

Inside the envelope are several documents: maps, schematics, and the like.  He pages through them, one by one.

"Here's a general layout.  Like I said, it's a big, sprawling place."

"Now, these hazardous waste dumps  could be a big problem. you'd think it would just be medical wastes and the like.  It's not.  They stink to high heaven of the Wyrm, and there are some very nasty Banes on the other side of the mirror.   I'm kinda glad I didn't cross over to introduce myself."

"This is the main complex.  I  snuck in, and it was Building 7 that showed the most signs of activity.  The aboveground areas still look abandoned, but you could smell that people and...not-people...had been in and out.  I managed to get down into the basement, and there's something going on down there, but I didn't stay long."  He frowns.  "Something was down there--something very nasty.  It smelled sort of like a wolf, but...twisted.  Tainted.  And it was on the hunt.  I didn't stick around long enough to see if my gifts of stealth would hide me from it."

He pulls out a smartphone and calls up a video.

"I took some footage as I was looking around."

((OOC: Please ignore the logo at the start, since the ST isn't about to violate multiple laws to get original footage. Wink ))

"Long story short: the place is a hotbed of Wyrm activity.  To what end, I don't know yet, but there's something very nasty going on down below the ground floor."

"Thanks for the information. Changing the numbers makes sure you understand the underlying math, rather then the wrote memorization of a traditional riddle. I would be interested in hearing what answer you come up with later."

Redleaf nods. "Listen...if you go in there...be careful. I know, I know, cats are supposed to be neurotic and paranoid, and maybe we are, but there's something down there, and I suspect it's all kinds of unfriendly."

"Yup. I don't doubt you for a second. That's why we'll go. Sometime what the world needs is the slow erosion of a river grinding away the courption with time. Sometimes it needs a ball of fangs and claws to tear out the courption with blood and violence."

Again, he nods...pausing to take another look around and make sure the area is still clear of inconvenient listeners before speaking again.  "Whatever it is, I don't think it's Garou.  Not even twisted Garou dedicated to the Unmaker.  I've fought them before; this smelled different.  But that leaves a lot of things it could be.  Good luck."
