11/27/14 - Dining Hall

One of the long tables in the dining hall is decked out with half a dozen large turkeys, two enormous salad bowls, large crocks of mashed potatoes, green beans, stuffing with apples and pecans, macaroni and cheese, yams, cranberries, corn and baskets of biscuits.

Artemis is there, wearing a plastic pilgrim's hat. She has a turkey leg in one hand and gesticulates wildly with it between bites. There is a rather sturdy mug in front of her, but nothing else on her plate. Trust Fund, her ever-present kinfolk, is sitting beside her, picking at a plate full of greens.

"It's about turkey, Andreas. TURKEY. You can't eat a fucking salad and call it Thanksgiving. At least put some turkey on your salad."

*walks in*
Ok. Thanksgiving? I have been hearing this all over. Will some one explain it to me?

*walks in oh* Quills do you need someone to carve ..????

*looks over at Miguel* Its a day set aside here in America as a day of National Thanksgiving to it started out as a Harvest Festival to thank their Diety for his blessings. It eventually became an formal anual holiday dedicated to well feasting and spending time with family and friends!?!

*Smiles* Well, that's just beautiful.

"Uh-huh," Artie assents from behind a mouthful of turkey. "I had Trust Fund set us up with enough dinner to feed a small army, and now we're gonna eat it. We can talk about our feelings and stuff. Someone can get hammered and say the wrong thing. We can have political discussions that no one wins. It'll be awesome!"

*Looks confused as he sits and places his napkin on his lap*
I'm sorry?

*looks around to see who is serving or if it is family style*
How formal is Thanksgiving typically?

There's no one serving, and from the looks of things, it's quite informal. Artie munches on her turkey leg and shakes her head. "Yeah, I take it you never had a family "discussion" over a table. Never mind, it's a joke. Please, eat up. I don't usually do formalities."

*He eats informally like he has been taught it out of a book.*
'No... dinners were generally at least semi formal, formal, white tie, following a variety of protocols. 'Why eat when you can eat and learn?', Mother would say.'

*he helps himself to a small amount of everything, though some of it is clearly unfamiliar to him.*

We would discuss my lessons, her day, Grandfather's day. I would be asked questions and be required to answer, but mostly I sat silently. 'Children are seen and not heard, or they are seen less.'

*sighs*   Huge Family dinners after an afternoon of football with the family and cousins rain, sleet or snow.   We would then come in and watch football and try to get past my grandmonther to the Pies....   bruised knuckles were expected but the reward was worth the risk!  There was never really any formality just alot of loud boisterous people having fun with each other with really huge amounts of food, I miss them all!

*pauses eating*
Are we expected to play football or merely watch?

"You can do whatever you like, ser. I'm not going to play against the two of you refrigerators. I don't feel like being tackled. I'm a delicate flower. But I'll put a prize up if you two get teams upstairs on the barn."

Ron has been quietly helping himself to some of the meat. He lets out a little chuckle when Quills refers to herself as a delicate flower.

"I bet you'd make a hell of a Quarterback Quills, but if you want to sit back and play ref I'm not gona quarrel with you. I'm down for a game, but not till I've got more of this glorious spread in me."

*chuckles* later you usually play before you eat the big meal because well it cuts down on people throwing up.....I would go with everyone watch a little football first and if we want later we can try to get a couple of teams together
