The Three Pines Tavern was the scene of a tragic fire in which eight people were killed. Witnesses reported seeing a man dressed in traditional native garb firing flaming arrows into the club; based on reports, investigators also believe that smoke grenades were used to add to the chaos. Given the reports and the speed with which the building caught fire, police are treating this as an arson investigation. Sources indicate that several of the slain were members of the Dog Pack, a local motorcycle gang; when asked whether the incident could have been an attack by a rival gang, police sources declined to comment.

News thread 10154011

The Buffalo News: As seismic activity continues through the Niagara region, researchers from the UB earthquake research center say that there is little cause for concern, and that this actually presents an amazing opportunity. Activity like this hasn't been seen since the fall of Prospect Point, and Table Rock. Student researchers are scheduled to begin taking deep core samples of the escarpment later this month.

The Buffalo News: Police are investigating the final tragedy to strike the students of the Mycroft quad which was enveloped by a rapidly spreading blaze which destroyed the building. Seven students were killed in the inferno with many more injured. Our hopes and prayers go out to the survivors.

The Buffalo News: Consumer product alert! An immediate recall is being issued on Sol-Shield brand sunscreen lot numbers XXXXX, XXXXY, and XXXYY. Over three dozen users have been admitted to local hospitals with severe burns. It is suspected that the sunscreen is contaminated with photo-reactive toxins. Anyone exposed is advised to stay out of sunlight or other sources of UV light, and to seek medical attention immediately.

The Buffalo News: Students with UB's earthquake research center are finally ready to begin their investigation of the continuing seismic activity under the Niagara escarpment. A series of technical failures and permit issues have stymied the research effort for the past several weeks, but sampling is salted to begin again next week more than a half mile down the escarpment. This marks the third conservative month of low level activity in the area. Professor Alicia Malison states that “While it is sad that bureaucracy has kept the students from the desired site, the unprecedented length of these continued tremors will still provide a wealth of valuable information to the group. This is unlike any faultline slip on record, anything short of mole-men is on the table at this point. If this keeps up, it will be a multidisciplinary extravaganza, I know more than a few eager psych students who would love to study the long term effects of infrasound on a large population. You just don't get to run those kind of studies out in the wild anymore...”

The Buffalo News: Construction has been completed on the new 60 story Buffalo tower. Already business and early adopter residents are clamoring to move into this monument to Buffalo's rebirth. The green-roof is being dedicated to it's designer Jeremiah Henderson who found dead at a construction site earlier this year.

Artvoice: Construction has begun a new shopping center in LaSalle park. This center will serve the waterfront with over half an acre of high end boutique shopping and dining.

The Buffalo News: Equipment troubles continue to plague the UB research team investigating the continuing uptick of seismic activity occurring throughout western New York. It has been leaked, that last month alone equipment failures cost the department over $80,000 in repairs and calibrations. Alicia Malison, Professor and chair of the UB Geology department has come under criticism for this research initiative which has produced no answers as to the cause of the building tremors and who has overseen a program plagued by unprecedented expense and delay. A formal inquiry is being launched by SUNY system. Meanwhile, USGS has dispatched a survey team to continue the investigation of the escarpment.

The Buffalo News:

NIAGARA FALLS, NY: Local officials are puzzled by an unusually thick and persistent fog covering much of the southern coast of Lake Ontario. The fog, which seems to have appeared early Friday morning, extends from Niagara Falls past Olcott, and seems to extend to roughly a quarter of a mile offshore. Meteorologists believe that the fog may be the result of a strong current of unseasonably warm water running just below the surface; however, they have not yet offered an explanation for the presence of this current. Boaters are warned to exercise extreme caution while navigating in the region.

"Police in Wilson are baffled by an outbreak of arson, vandalism and robbery, which apparently took place sometime late last night. Numerous boats at the Wilson Marina were burned, and nearby St. John's Episcopal Church was apparently robbed and severely damaged. The Wilson carousel was also vandalized, the heads hacked off of several of the animals. Sources tell us that police suspect a possible gang initiation, and are currently seeking the whereabouts of the security guard who was on-duty at the marina. Police have not released the name of the guard, and were unwilling to comment on an ongoing investigation. We'll be bringing you further updates as they become available. From Wilson, this is George Richert for News 4."

The following is a representative sample of a story making essentially all local media sources.

The Buffalo News: Buffalo City Tower and surrounding buildings have been cordoned off by law enforcement following what appears to be a power excursion inside the building. Residents and workers inside the tower were evacuated last month after several rapidly developed symptoms of radiation poisoning.

Though the tower has not been thoroughly explored, it is suspected that over 50 casualties remain inside which would bring the death toll to over 80.

Initial reports from the scene showed an extreme level of emissions from thorium decay, though this has subsided to merely dangerous levels in the intervening weeks. Emergency workers and scientists are baffled as to how the radiation surge occurred. Inquiries into the matter have led to the detention of employees from the Grunewald Construction group, and Violet Reclamation service. Sources indicate that the site may have been contaminated with steel reclaimed from local hazardous waste sites, though this would not explain the extreme levels of activity seen in the area. Due to this fact, police are treating this incident as a potential as a potential terrorist threat.
Records from the Violet reclamation group, and backup files of the Grunewald group have been seized by law enforcement in a series of late-night raids.

In what is being investigated as a related matter, the offices of the Grunewald group were subject to blatant arson the night of the incident.

The Buffalo News (Backdated Early September):
A massive earthquake was recorded deep under lake Erie late last night. Though no equipment was in the area, onshore instruments estimated a localized force of magnitude 8. A violent lake seiche struck shore around 9pm; thanks to upgrades to the breakwall since a similar event in the late 1800s the damage was confined to shoreline areas. Damage was caused to numerous boathouses, docks, and shore front properties, though no casualties have been reported. Local geologists suspect the collapse of a cavern deep under the lake as the cause of the event. Since late last night, all seismic activity in the area has subsided.

The Niagara Bee:
A break-in was reported at the Pearson Pharmaceutical Facility late Thursday night, the perpetrators caused an undisclosed amount of property damage. Police suspect activities by anti capital punishment activists based on markings found on-site.

The Niaraga Bee:
Local resident Billy Higgs has been arraigned on murder and arson charges after lighting fire to a Niagara Falls paper recycler. Higgs was handed over to police after attempting to seek sanctuary with the Church of Unity who were having a meeting at the Unitarian Universalist church on Main Street in Niagara Falls.
